ADEN, Aug. 26 (YPA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called on the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) to enable it to visit detainees in the STC-run prisons in the city of Aden, southern Yemen.
This came during the meeting of head the ICRC’s office in Aden, Beatrice Oxley, with the STC leading member, Ahmed bin Burik, on Wednesday, according to informed sources.
Oxley asked to visit detainees in the STC prisons to see if the detention standards comply with the requirements of international law.
This comes days after a human rights association called for the ICRC to visit detainees in the STC prisons, who are subjected to various types of torture and grave violations.
