Algeria announces control of all fires throughout country

ALGIERS, Aug. 18 (YPA) – Algeria announced on Wednesday the control of all forest fires throughout the country, after it was able to extinguish 7 fires in the past 24 hours.

The Civil Protection Department of the Algerian Ministry of Interior stated, in a statement, that “civil protection personnel were able to extinguish 7 forest fires in Ain Defla, Blida, Bejaia (central), Setif and Khenchela (east), and two fires in Jijel (east).

The statement added that the Civil Protection Department did not record any other fires throughout the country until 8:00 am local time.

For days, about 20 Algerian states have witnessed unprecedented forest fires, accompanied by a record heat wave and strong southern winds, and these fires caused the death of 69 people, including 28 military personnel, according to official data, most of them in the state of Tizi Ouzou in the Kabylie region east of the capital Algiers.
