Washington prepares to send troops to Kabul to evacuate some embassy staff

SANAA, Aug. 13 (YPA) – Washington has announced that it is sending in an additional 3,000 troops to help evacuate some personnel from the US Embassy in Kabul, officials said Thursday.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the Army and Marine forces will enter Afghanistan within the next two days to assist at the Kabul airport with the partial embassy evacuation.

The US Embassy in Kabul asked Americans in Afghanistan to use the civilian flights available to leave the country immediately, calling on those who did not have enough money to purchase the ticket to contact them immediately in order to grant them a repatriation loan.

The Embassy also urged Americans who cannot leave Afghanistan immediately because they are waiting for an immigrant visa to their minor spouses or children to contact officials immediately as well.
