5 dead in tunnel collapse in eastern Syria

SANAA, Aug. 3 (YPA) – Five people were killed and others were injured when a tunnel they were digging for the benefit of the “SDF” militants loyal to the US army collapsed in the vicinity of the latter’s illegal base, within the city of Hasaka, far north-eastern Syria.

Local sources in Al-Hasakah Governorate told news agencies that five people lost contact with them as a result of the collapse of one of the tunnels being built under the Sports City in the Ghweran neighborhood, south of Al-Hasakah city, while others were injured.

The sources added that the collapse is not the first of its kind, as another tunnel collapsed in the same site, in which 3 people died, noting that the militants of the organization loyal to the US army dug a series of tunnels and fortifications within the aforementioned site, which directly supervises the illegal US base at the site.

The sources added that a large number of civilians gathered in front of the Sports City building in the Ghweran neighborhood of Hasaka city, on Monday 2 August, demanding to know the fate of their children after the tunnel collapsed while a group of civilian workers were digging and preparing operations within the aforementioned tunnel.
