SANAA, Jul. 31 (YPA) – The World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday that Delta “dangerous and the most transmissible SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, urging the world to move to crack down on the epidemic quickly before it turns worse again.
The highly contagious variant was first detected in India, and the World Health Organization (WHO) said it has now appeared in 132 regions and is partly responsible for an 80% increase in COVID-19 deaths in Africa over the past four weeks, AFP reported.
“Delta is a warning that the virus is evolving, but it’s also a call for action that we need to act now before more dangerous variables emerge,” WHO Emergency Director Michael Ryan told a press conference.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added: “So far, four variants of concern have emerged — and there will be more as long as the virus continues to spread.”
