SANAA, Jul. 31 (YPA) – Ethiopia on Friday called on the international community to force the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to stop launching new attacks in the country.
Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mykonin made the remarks during virtual talks with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Jean-Pierre Marc Garneau, the official INA news agency reported.
Garneau, said that his country expects a rapid improvement in the flow of humanitarian support in the northern province of Tigray, while the Ethiopian official stressed that Addis Ababa’s decision to unilaterally cease fire in the region was aimed at “addressing humanitarian concerns in the region”.
He said the Tigray Liberation Front “squandered the opportunity for peace under a unilateral ceasefire and chose to close humanitarian corridors and launch new attacks in Afar and Amhara states”.
Demeke said his country is concerned about the failure of the international community to recognize its efforts to “create an environment conducive to humanitarian support, peace and stability in change”.
Addis Ababa expects Canada and the international community to put pressures on TPLF to stop its “terrorist” operations, respect the ceasefire and not obstruct humanitarian support efforts in the region, he added.
