LONDON, Jul 12 (YPA) – British police said early Monday that 19 of their members were injured as they tackled crowds during the policing operation in the 2020 European Football Championship final between Italy and England on Sunday.
Clashes broke out between fans and officials near Wembley Stadium.
“We arrested 49 during the day for various offences,” the Metropolitan Police said on Twitter.
“Our policing operation for Euro 2020 is coming to an end,” police added.
“That was a heartbreaking result to end Euro2020 but Gareth Southgate and his England squad played like heroes. They have done the nation proud and deserve great credit,” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday, tweeting on his Twitter account.
