SANAA, Jul. 3 (YPA) – Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Friday that “the world is going through a very dangerous stage in the development of the Corona virus pandemic after the emergence of the “delta” mutant.
“This strain has been found in at least 98 regions of the world,” and “This type of infection is very dangerous and continues to mutate,” he said.
He added: “In combination with more virulent variants such as ‘Delta’, which has quickly become the dominant strain in many countries, we are in a very dangerous period of this epidemic.”
He continued, “The health system must monitor the new mutations of the Corona virus and adapt to it constantly,” noting “the importance of conducting infection tests and early detection, isolating and treating the infected, observing all precautions from wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and ventilating gathering places.”
Ghebreyesus called on the international community to share vaccines, respirators, medicines and tests, and to speed up vaccination.
“This is the best way to slow the pandemic, save lives, stimulate global economic recovery, and prevent the emergence of new dangerous variants of the coronavirus,” he said.
