SANAA, Jul. 3 (YPA) – The “Stars and Stripes” website, which specializes in military affairs, reported that the US Army closed three military bases in Qatar and transferred equipment and soldiers to Jordan.
The site pointed out that the United States closed sprawling bases in Qatar that were used as warehouses to store weapons, and diverted the remaining supplies to Jordan, in a move analysts said improves Washington’s conditions for dealing with Iran and reflects the changing priorities of the military in the region.
A statement by the US Army last week said that the army commanders closed the main Sailiya camp last month, along with the southern Sailiya camp, and an ammunition supply point called Falcon, adding that the camp served as a forward staging area for American supplies in the Middle East, as it contains 27 depots for storing tanks and carriers. Armored soldiers and a variety of equipment.
A US Central Command statement said that supplies from the three bases, in addition to a support mission stationed there, are now part of the region’s support group in Jordan.
Closing the bases and moving the mission to Jordan could benefit the United States in potential conflicts with Iran, said Kamran Bukhari, a national security and policy expert focusing on the region at the Washington-based Center for Global Policy.
