SANAA, Jun. 29 (YPA) – A senior Chinese diplomat on Monday criticized what he described as “genocide” committed by the United States and other Western countries, Xinhua reported.
He called on the international community to conduct “thorough, impartial and in-depth investigations into all genocides to eliminate racism, racial discrimination and other legacies of that crime”.
Speaking at the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Jiang Duan, minister of the Chinese mission to the United Nations in Geneva, said that genocide is a universally acknowledged severe international crime and the devastating impacts of genocide is still felt today
In the US, “Native American Indians were expelled from their lands and slaughtered during the so-called Western expansion nearly 100 years after the country’s founding,” Jiang said. Their population decreased from 5 million at the end of the 15th century to 250,000 at the beginning of the 20th century.”
“American Indians today live in isolated and abandoned reserves in the United States,” he said.
Speaking about Canada, Jiang said, “more than 150,000 Indigenous children have been forcibly sent to boarding schools to accommodate them, and at least 3,200 of them have been abused to death.”
“This is just the tip of the iceberg in the number of indigenous people who died as a result of the genocide in Canada,” he explained .
“Other Western countries have committed serious genocide and crimes against humanity in colonizing and invading other countries,” he added.
