Iran: US agrees to lift oil, cargo sanctions

TEHRAN, Jun. 23 (YPA) – Iran announced Wednesday that Washington had agreed during the Vienna talks to lift all oil and cargo sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic and to remove the names of some prominent figures from the blacklist.

“An agreement was reached to lift all insurance, oil and shipping sanctions imposed by former US President Donald Trump,” Iranian state media quoted Mahmoud Vaezi, Rouhani’s chief of staff, as saying.

“About 1,040 Trump-era sanctions will be lifted under the deal,” he added. It was also agreed to lift some sanctions against individuals and members of the leader’s close circle.

In the same context, German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, announced today that Iran and world powers are making progress in talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, but significant obstacles still have to be overcome. He pointed out that it is possible to reach an agreement even after the victory of a hard-line Iranian president in the elections.

Iran agreed in 2015 to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions. Trump withdrew from the agreement three years later and re-imposed sanctions, and Tehran responded by gradually reducing its commitments to the agreement.
