Guterres re-appointed as UN Secretary-General for second term

SANAA, Jun 9 (YPA) – The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday approved the re-appointment of Antonio Guterres as United Nations Secretary-General for a second term between 2022 and 2026.

France-Presse Agency said that the council unanimously recommended, during a closed session, the extension of Guterres, according to what was announced by the Estonian ambassador Sven Jorgensen, who holds the rotating presidency of the council.

Official confirmation of the appointment is awaited by the United Nations General Assembly shortly.

It is noteworthy that the 72-year-old former Portuguese Prime Minister (Guterres), has held the Secretariat of the International Organization since January 2017, and is the only candidate whose name has been officially approved this year to occupy the position during the next term.
