SANAA, Jun. 08 (YPA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed Iran’s readiness to help achieve peace in Yemen.
This came during a meeting held between the senior advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Asghar Khaji, and the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.
During the meeting, Khaji presented the plan proposed by his country to raise the risk of oil leakage from the Safer’s oil tanker floating off Hodeida coasts and polluting the environment.
Khaji discussed with Griffiths the latest developments on the Yemeni arena, especially the recent visit of the UN envoy to the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the military developments in Marib governorate.
They stressed the need to lift the economic siege on the Yemeni people, and ways to establish peace and stability in the country, well as removing potential dangers related of oil spillover from the floating tank.
In turn, Griffiths also gave an explanation of his visits to the region, as well as the efforts of the United Nations to settle the crisis in Yemen.
Earlier in the day, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Yemen had met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, who stressed that war is not the solution to the crisis in Yemen, stressing the need to lift the siege on the people.
