One dead, 7 missing in coal mine explosion in China

SANAA, Jun.05 (YPA) – One person was killed and seven others went missing in an accident at a coal mine in central China, china’s state-run television broadcaster CTV reported Saturday.

According  to the  CCTV, an explosion occurred in a coalmine run by Henan Hebi Coal and Electricity Company late Friday afternoon, and authorities in Henan Province began an emergency response plan.

The provincial government said last month that it had agreed to reopen another mine run by Henan Hebi after it was closed for non-compliance with the required conditions.

China conducts safety inspections in coalmines across the country, but record high coal prices have prompted miners to increase production to address supply gaps.

In May, china’s cabinet said it would stabilize high commodity prices, while encouraging coal producers to increase production to meet global demand.
