Algerian president: Only the minority rejects elections and I reject the dictates of the minority

SANAA, Jun.05 (YPA) – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said Friday that only the minority rejects the elections and that he rejects the dictates of this minority, stressing that he “will not run for a second term”.

Speaking to The French weekly “Le Point”, Tebboune  said his country was on the “brink” when he was elected in 2019, noting that “the ideology of political Islam will not exist in Algeria.”

He added: “Political Islam has not been an obstacle to development in countries such as Tunisia, Turkey or Egypt, such a model of political Islam does not bother me, because it does not rise above the laws of the republic that will strictly apply it.”

Regarding to the “popular movement,”” he said, “Fortunately, there was a popular gift and the original movement came blessed in February 2019, which enabled it to stop the collapse of the state and abolish the Fifth Covenant, which would have enabled the beneficial gang that took over the powers of the President of the Republic to continue to rule the country.”
