Locust Center warns of arrival of locust swarms to breeding areas

SANAA, May 30 (YPA) – The Desert Locust Control Center in Sanaa on Sunday warned of the arrival of locust swarms coming from Saudi Arabia to the eastern summer breeding areas in Yemen.

The center expected the arrival of these swarms at the beginning of next June. It considered the monsoon movement currently taking place in the country as one of the confirmed indicators of the expectations of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on the general situation of the desert locust situation and movements in the region.

The center stated that it has received information and reports that swarms of desert locusts have been seen coming from Saudi Arabia towards Yemen since May 26, especially with the direction of the northerly winds prevailing during this period.
