Congo announces death of dozens of deputies from “Covid 19”

SANAA, May 29 (YPA) –  Congo announced on Friday the death of dozens of parliamentarians in the country as a result of infection with the emerging coronavirus, despite the precautionary measures taken.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of the Congo said that 32 members of Parliament, or approximately 5% of the total number of members, have died as a result of infection with “Covid 19” disease since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Reuters.

“According to the latest statement issued by the government, the number of confirmed infections has reached 31,248, while the deaths have reached 780, including 32 members of Parliament,” said Jean-Marc Capond, first deputy of the House of Representatives.

These deaths come, although the use of masks is mandatory in Parliament, but members usually ignore this when they gather.

Although the Congo announced relatively low numbers of infections and deaths from the Corona virus, the disease swept the corridors of power and claimed the lives of prominent members of parliament and some members of the circle close to the president.
