Sudan intends to send first official delegation to Israel

KHARTOUM, April 14 (YPA) – Sudan is planning to send the first official delegation to Israel, next week, to confirm the bilateral relations that were established between the two countries last year via American mediation.

On Tuesday, two sources said that the Sudanese delegation will include security and intelligence officials. One of the sources added that the time of the visit next scheduled week is awaiting agreement.

The visit perhaps comes in response to the sudden visit of an Israeli security delegation headed by Minister of Intelligence Eli Cohen to Khartoum without prior notice, which is the first overt official visit by an Israeli minister to an Arab country after normalization between the two countries.

Sudan and Israel signed a peace agreement on October 23, making it the fifth Arab country to take this step.

Last week, the Sudanese government passed a bill repealing legislation dating back to 1958 on “boycotting Israel.”
