Hadi coast guard commander arrives in Somalia to receive Turkish shipment

SANAA, April 04 (YPA) – Hadi’s coast guard commander, Khalid al-Qamali, arrived in Somalia on Saturday on a mission to arrange the receipt of a shipment of Turkish weapons that arrived on the Somali coast earlier this week.

Media sources said al-Qamali, who had earlier met with the director of the UN  Maritime Crime  Office in the Seychelles, also met with the Somali coast guard commander to coordinate what he described as cooperation between the two sides.

Al-Qamali’s visit to Somalia came hours after a Turkish cargo ship carrying about 200 armoured vehicles and various weapons arrived at Mogadishu port of Somalia on their way to Yemen.

The ship remains docked in the Somali coastline near Yemen, from which Ankara has a military base.

The transfer of armored vehicles is expected to begin in the coming days, and will be carried out across the coast of the Ahwar district, which Hadi’s forces have retained control of and represent a smuggling center on Yemen’s southern coast.
