Biden administration says it considers West Bank “occupied territory”

SANAA, April 01 (YPA) – The US Department of State confirmed that President Joe Biden’s administration already considers the West Bank “occupied territory” by Israel, a day after the department issued a report in which it declined to use the term.

“This is a historical fact that Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights after the 1967 war,” Ned Price, Department Spokesperson told reporters.

“The report already uses the term occupation in the context of the current status of the West Bank,” Price said.

“This is the old position of the previous governments, both democratic and republican, for several decades,” he added

Until Trump came to power in 2017, the US Department of State, in its annual report on the human rights situation in the world, has been devoting a chapter to “Israel and the Occupied Territories,” but in 2018 that title changed to “Israel, the West Bank and Gaza,” the same phrase in Tuesday’s state report.
