4 killed in Bangladesh during protests against Indian PM visit

DHAKA, March 27 (YPA) – At least four people were killed in a clash with the Bangladeshi police Friday afternoon in Chatgram city, during protests against the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the country.

In recent weeks, citizens and student activists demonstrated in the capital, Dhaka, to condemn Modi’s visit.

Critics of the visit accuse Modi’s Hindu nationalist party of fueling religious polarization in India and discrimination against minorities, especially Muslims.

Modi’s two-day visit is his first foreign trip since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic last year. During the visit, he will participate in commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Independence Leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
