At least 15 Rohingya refugees killed in massive fire in Bangladesh

SANAA, March 23 (YPA) – At least 15 people were killed and others 400 got missing on Tuesday after a massive fire in the Rohingya refugee camp in southeastern Bangladesh, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

The Regional Representative of the UNHCR in Bangladesh, Johannes Van der Klaauw, said in a press conference that the massive fire had never been seen at a refugee camp before.

“We still don’t know the fate of 400 people, they might be in the rubble,” he added.

Klaauw stated that the UNHCR received reports of 560 people were injured and others 45,000 displaced, as well as about 10,000 shelters were destroyed.

About a million Rohingya Muslim minority from Myanmar country are living in miserable conditions in camps in Balukhali area of Cox’s Bazar district, after fleeing their country as a result of a military operation by the Myanmar army in 2017.
