Oil Minister stresses importance of UN’s role in releasing fuel ships

SANAA, March 09 (YPA) – Minister of Oil and Minerals, Ahmed Abdullah Darris, stressed on Tuesday the importance of enhancing the United Nations’ efforts and its role to pressure on the Saudi-led coalition countries to release the detained oil ships in order to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen.

This came during his meeting with the new Resident Representative of the United Nations for Yemen, David Gressly.

The Minister briefed the UN official on the aspects of coordination and attempts to release the ships of oil derivatives, which have not received any response.

Darris pointed out that the current situation has become dangerous as a result of the detained oil ships, noting that the release of fuel ships has become an urgent necessity that requires urgent intervention to prevent medical and service sectors to stop.

Meanwhile, the UN official explained that discussions were held with UNICEF, the World Food Program and a number of humanitarian organizations to work to enter the fuel ships, and the need to provide oil derivatives to guarantee the continuation of vital sectors’ works that citizens.
