Education Ministry discusses with OCHA cooperation aspects

SANAA, March 02 (YPA) – Deputy Minister of Education Qasim Al-Homran discussed here on Tuesday with Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen, Sajjad Mohammed Sajid, aspects of cooperation in the education sector.

The two sides touched on ways to enhance and support the Ministry’s programs and activities.

In the meeting, Al-Homran pointed to the importance of advocacy and working to mobilize the efforts of education partners from the donor community to support the ministry’s priorities, foremost among which is providing alternatives to teachers’ interrupted salaries, printing the textbook, and reconstructing the destroyed and damaged schools, which amount to 4,000 schools, as well as training and qualifying teachers.

For his part, Sajid affirmed that OCHA is keen to support the education sector in Yemen. He indicated that the office is about to finalize the humanitarian response plan, which included a request to raise the allocations for the education sector to 257 million dollars and target more than five million students.
