Salaries ignite popular uprising in Aden

ADEN, Feb. 28 (YPA) – Angry protesters on Sunday blocked most of the main roads and streets in the port city of Aden, southern Yemen.

Dozens of protesters affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia, cut off streets and roads, in protest against the non-payment of salaries, high food prices, and the collapse of the electricity service due to the lack of oil derivatives, local sources reported.

The sources added that the retired soldiers joined the uprising of the STC militants, noting that the protesters set fire to tires, demanding the “government of Moein Abdulmalik” to pay salaries and provide basic services to citizens.

The protests came after the “Hadi government” announced that the salaries would be paid ten days ago.
