Italian ambassador to Democratic Republic of Congo killed
SANAA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – The Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo was killed in an armed attack on a United Nations convoy in the east of the country on Monday.
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, in a statement, that the attack resulted in the death of the ambassador and a member of the military police who was accompanying him.
Meanwhile, the local news site”Actolite” revealed that the attack targeted a convoy of the United Nations World Food Program, noting that the accident occurred near the city of Goma in North Kivu Province.
The same source stated that the convoy took place in an ambush by unidentified persons who were planning to kidnap hostages.
