Tebboune signs decree dissolving Algerian People’s Assembly

SANAA, Feb. 22 (YPA) –  Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed on Sunday a presidential decree providing for the dissolution of the People’s National Assembly (the first chamber in the Algerian Parliament).

On Thursday, Tebboune said that he had decided to dissolve parliament and organize parliamentary elections that were “free and fair, far from corrupt money.”

He also announced in his first speech after returning from treatment in Germany that “a government reshuffle will take place within two days, including ministries that failed to deal with citizen problems.”

Algerian political forces welcomed the decision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to dissolve parliament, organize early parliamentary elections, and release dozens of detainees.

The “New Generation” party described the step as important towards enhancing confidence, while political formations considered the president’s recent decisions “insufficient.”
