Sanaa responds to Saudi complaint submitted to Security Council

SANAA, Feb. 15 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Monday sent a letter to Chief of the United Nations Security Council, in which he touched on the complaint note submitted by Saudi Arabia regarding the attack on Abha airport by Sanaa forces and its claim it is violation of international law.

At the letter, the minister said that the Saudi complaint has ignored all crimes and violations have been committed by the Saudi Air Forces using all types of the internationally prohibited weapons and ammunition, against the Yemeni people and its territories since March 26, 2015.

Sharaf pointed out that Saudi Arabia and its coalition have been imposing the stifling blockade and a policy of collective punishment against the Yemeni people, including obstructing the entry of ships loaded with oil derivatives and food, creating the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe according to United Nations reports, in violations of the humanitarian law and international conventions.

He noted the Saudi complaint submitted to the Security Council the assertion of its right to defend its lands and the safety of its citizens, is a failed attempt to cover its crimes and its military interventions in the Yemeni internal affairs and the violation of the sovereignty of Yemen for reasons and hidden agenda.

“The political leadership in Sanaa, represented by the Supreme Political Council and the Salvation Government, calls for peace and takes seriously international diplomatic and political moves, especially the call of US President Joe Biden, the European position to bring peace to Yemen, as well as the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths’ efforts, which aims to end the war and lift the comprehensive siege on Yemen, and achieve a political settlement and sustainable peace,” the minister added.

For the success of these diplomatic moves, Sharaf stressed the importance of creating the appropriate climate and completing confidence-building measures, which will aim at the immediate mutual ceasefire and lifting the comprehensive blockade for land, sea, airports of Yemen, especially Sanaa International Airport.
