Russian Defense Ministry announces response to missile attack on Hmeimim base in Syria

SANAA, Feb. 11 (YPA) – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces repelled an attack with rocket launchers on Hmeimim base in Latakia countryside, Syria.
According to SANA, the deputy director of the Russian Coordination Center in Hmeimim, Marine Brigade, Vyacheslav Sitnik, said in a statement, on Wednesday, that “the Russian air defense forces responded to an attack on Hmeimim air base using long-range missile launchers.”

Sitnik explained that the monitoring means determined that the bombing was carried out from the areas of the Takfiri groups spread in the de-escalation zone in Idlib, indicating that the attack did not result in any injuries or material damage, and that the Hmeimim base was operating in a normal system.

Over the past months, the anti-aircraft missiles thwarted dozens of attempts by the takfirist groups to attack the safe areas and villages in Latakia countryside and the Hmeimim base by means of drones carrying bombs from deep in their area of deployment in Idlib and Latakia countryside.
