HADRAMOUT, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Governor of Hadramout province loyal to Saudi-led coalition, Faraj Al-Bahsani, left Mukalla city on Wednesday on an Emirati military plane to the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
Informed sources in the province stated that Governor Al-Bahsani’s departure came after angry popular protests on Tuesday, which called for his dismissal and his referral to trial.
The sources indicated that the UAE summoned Al-Bahsani urgently to Abu Dhabi, but other sources suggested that he fled the city following the angry protests that accused him of corruption.
On Tuesday, the protesters burned pictures of the governor in Mukalla, accusing him of corruption, amid deteriorating services and high prices in various commodities and basic goods.
The demonstrations followed a call by the so-called “Hadramout Tribes Alliance”, funded by Riyadh, last week for the independence of the so-called “Hadramout region,” which was rejected by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council.
