SANAA, Feb. 9 (YPA) – Papua New Guinea, located on the Pacific Ocean, was hit by an earthquake, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale on Tuesday.
According to the agency “Sputnik”, the US Geological Survey said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 59 km.
The authority indicated that the earthquake occurred at latitude (5.202) to the south, and longitude (151.740) to the east.
The US Geological Survey did not warn of the tsunami waves.
There were also no reports of casualties or destruction.
Papua New Guinea is located in the area of the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, and is characterized by high activity of earthquakes and volcanoes, and this region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world.
