Iraq thwarts ISIS terrorist attacks in Nineveh

BAGHDAD, Jan. 30 (YPA) – The Iraqi army announced on Saturday thwarting plans of the terrorist organization “ISIS” to launch attacks in Nineveh province, north of the country.

This came in a statement issued by the National Security Agency (linked to the Prime Minister’s Office), which Anadolu Agency cited.

The agency said that it “managed to arrest seven ISIS terrorists in Mosul city (Nineveh Center) who were planning to carry out terrorist operations in the province.”

The arrested confessed to carrying out armed attacks against the security forces during the liberation operations (against ISIS in 2017), and they were referred to the judiciary, according to the statement.

Iraq has intensified its campaigns to pursue the remnants of the “ISIS” organization over the past few days, following a double suicide bombing on January 21 that targeted a popular market in the center of Baghdad, killing 32 people and wounding 110 others.
