Sudan: Authorities close all roads leading to army headquarters in Khartoum

KHARTOUM, Jan. 27 (YPA) – The Sudanese army on Tuesday took security measures in the vicinity of the headquarters of the armed forces headquarters in Khartoum, a local newspaper reported.

Altaghyeer Newspaper reported that the army had closed all roads leading to the headquarters of the General Command of the Armed Forces.

The paper noted that popular Facebook groups specializing in traffic and transport, published the news of the closure and called on car owners to take alternative routes.

The closure of the general command streets causes traffic jams and congestion, as the headquarters is located in the centre of the Sudanese capital, in a location that links its three cities, Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman.

The General Command of the Armed Forces did not state the reasons for the closure of the surrounding streets, but the armed forces used to set up a security cordon to prevent protesters from reaching the main gates of the headquarters.
