Iran arrests US citizen

SANAA, Jan. 26 (YPA) – The spokesman for Iran’s Judiciary, Gholamhossein Esmaeili, announced on Tuesday that the Iranian authorities arrested a US citizen on charges of spying.

Ismaeli said that the citizen, who holds US nationality, was arrested while trying to leave the country.

According to Ismaili, the accused, whose identity has not been revealed, is facing charges of espionage.

Ismaili’s announcement came a day after the American authorities arrested an Iranian professor residing in the United States after the Ministry of Justice accused him of violating the foreign agent law.
