Qatar calls for dialogue between Gulf countries, Iran

DOHA, Jan. 10 (YPA) – Former Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani called on Saturday to open a dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Iran, saying it should not bet on tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim wrote in a tweet on Twitter: “I previously said during the rise of the US during the Trump administration that opening a dialogue between Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries could achieve significant results. Such a dialogue could end tensions in the region and boost confidence between the two banks of the Gulf. ”

The former Qatari prime minister considered that the opportunity was ripe for this dialogue “after the end of tensions between the GCC countries and the arrival of a new government to the White House,” remembering that “the opportunity exists and I recommend that it be seized.”

Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim said, “We should not hesitate to open this dialogue, as this will help resolve many of the tensions around us,” warning of “bets that are not considered good.”

The former Qatari Prime Minister stressed that “there are different views between us and Iran on many issues. However, this should not prevent the opening of dialogue with Iran, as we work with countries we do not agree on in many respects,” he said.

Previously, Arab sources reported that reconciliation of Qatar and the four Arab countries as well as resolving the dispute of Arab countries with Iran is a priority for the future policies of the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq.

Last year, Washington and Gulf capitals accused Tehran of targeting commercial vessels in Gulf waters and vital places in Saudi Arabia, which Iran denied, and offered to sign a non-aggression agreement with gulf states.
