SANAA, Jun. 2 (YPA) – An Afghan journalist was killed on Saturday in an armed ambush in Ghor region in central Afghanistan. He was the fifth journalist to be killed in the country in two months.
According to “Reuters” agency, the journalist, Basmallah Adel Ayyak (28 years), who works as editor-in-chief of “Sada Al-Ghor” radio, was killed in an ambush by gunmen near the city of Firouz Koh, the provincial capital.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the murder of the journalist and said his government was committed to supporting and promoting freedom of expression.
A civil society activist was also killed on Friday in an attack by unidentified gunmen.
The killing of journalists, officials and human rights activists has increased in recent months with the increase in violence in Afghanistan, despite peace talks between the government and the “Taliban” movement.
The “Taliban” had said in December that it was not responsible for killing media professionals.
