Saudi Arabia fails to firm military part of Riyadh Agreement in Abyan

ABYAN, Dec. 23 (YPA) – The Saudi forces failed again to establish a ceasefire in Abyan province, after renewed armed clashes on Wednesday between the so-called Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias and militants from the Islah Party in the province.

Local sources in Abyan said that the military confrontations have renewed dramatically between the factions of the armed coalition forces in the province, which threatens the imminent collapse of the so-called “Riyadh Agreement”.

Armed clashes erupted between the Islah militants on the one hand, and the UAE-backed STC’s militia on the other hand, in ‘Al-Tariya’ area near Qarn Al-Kallasi castle in Abyan, the sources explained.

The sources indicated that the Saudi committee issued an explicit threat to the Islah militia to stop the fighting and speed up the withdrawal from Abyan, unless they would be bombed by warplanes.

The clashes are still taking place between the two parties to the conflict with various types of heavy and medium weapons, the sources added.
