UAE moves to establish joint int’l military base on Socotra island

SOCOTRA, Dec. 16 (YPA) – The UAE has moved to establish a joint international military base on the occupied Socotra island, sources familiar with the matter said.

The sources affirmed that a military committee comprising 45 military officers and experts of various nationalities, including Israelis, held a meeting inside an UAE camp, on Tuesday, and approved a plan to establish the military base on the island.

The sources confirmed that the UAE, in cooperation with the US embassy in Riyadh-exiled “Hadi government, reworded dozens of Socotra citizens, during the past months, with huge sums of money and granted them Emirati and American nationalities, in exchange for assigning their lands.

Last Monday, 40 military officers, including experts, arrived on board an Emirati plane, at Socotra airport in the city of Hadibo, the capital of the island.

On Sunday, the UAE forces kidnapped the director of the state’s land and real estate office on the island, Jamil Abdullah Dimouri, and forced him to hand over the office’s stamp.

A new report published by the British Middle East Eye newspaper revealed dangerous military moves by the UAE forces to establish the bases in Socotra, and transferred military equipment with the approval of Saudi Arabia.

The report pointed out that the UAE has suspended all the pressures that the “Hadi government” was subjected to, about so-called “parliamentary accountability” for building Emirati bases on the island.
