STC militias accuse its leaders of betraying southern cause

ABYAN, Dec. 14 (YPA) – Informed sources in Abyan province, on Sunday, reported a rebellion among the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) ‘s militias, following their withdrawal from Abyan province.

The sources confirmed that a number of the STC battalions’ commanders accused the leaders of “STC” betrayal of the “southern cause” after Islah militants return to the city of Aden, to satisfy Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The sources added that a widespread grumbling spread among the elements of the “STC” militia, who fought against Islah militants under the so-called liberation of “Abyan, Shabwah and Hadramout”,

But they were surprised to see their withdrawal from Aden and Abyan, because of what they said was a “directive from Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber” to the “STC” leaders in Riyadh.

Islah militants returned to control Aden and Abyan after they were expelled by the UAE-backed militias in August 2019 as part of the implementation of the military component of the Riyadh Agreement.
