Study shows significant environmental pollution in Shabwah’s districts

SHABWAH, Nov. 26 (YPA) – A study by (Ultare Consulting) revealed significant environmental pollution in the districts of Shabwah Governorate located along a pipeline (Sector 4 West of Ayyad – Port Al-Nashima) due to oil leaks due to continuous attacks or attempts to steal from the pipeline repeatedly, as well as the destroy of the pipe.

The company described the pollution as “the biggest environmental pollution disaster in Yemen,” explaining that it found severe pollution in large quantities and repeatedly in large areas along the oil pipeline (Ayyad – Al-Nashima) in the districts of Shabwa governorate.

It indicated that the effects of the major pollution are represented by the increase in the oil content in the soil, the increase in salinity and salts in the soil, as well as the drinking water, causing severe damage to the surrounding environment, including flora and fauna, as well as a very negative societal impact.

The company indicated that the authorities did not move a finger towards this disaster, calling on the authorities to stop pumping oil from the pipeline and carry out maintenance operations first.
