Losses incurred by fishing sector amounts to more than $9 billion due to aggression

SANAA, Nov. 14 (YPA) –  Yemeni Minister of Fisheries, Mohammed al-Zubairi on Friday said that the total losses incurred by fishing sector due to the Saudi-led aggression exceeded $9 billion.

The move came during an interview with U News agency.

He confirmed that  that the aggression kidnapped Yemeni fishermen while working in Yemeni territorial waters and transferred them to prisons in Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Eritrea.

Al-Zubairi said the aggression allows giant ships to unfairly shovel fish into Yemeni territorial waters, in addition to destroying coral reefs and areas where shrimp species and marine life grow, and the stock is almost running out of large ships that empty their waste at sea.

Earlier Friday, the Ministry of Fisheries condemned the systematic looting of fish resources by Saudi-Emirati occupation  countries.

In a statement, the ministry condemned the looting and piracy carried out by countries of aggression against the Arabian Sea and the Socotra archipelago.

The statement  noted that the States of aggression had prevented fishermen in the Socotra archipelago from fishing and seeking their livelihoods and not allowing them to engage in the fishing profession, which was the main source of livelihood for the people of the archipelago.

They (occupation force) , in cooperation with mercenaries fishermen in the Socotra archipelago, prevented fishing under the pretext of fighting smuggling and terrorism, while Saudi-UAE fishing vessels and American Zionists are messing with the fishery and destroying sea houses along the coastal strip of Socotra island and the Arabian Sea, the statement read.

The Ministry of Fisheries condemned the systematic destruction of Yemen’s fisheries by the countries of aggression, calling on the international community to stop tampering and destruction of fish stocks
