Update: Turkey’s earthquake death toll rises to 12 dead, 419 wounded

ANKARA, Oct. 31 (YPA) – The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced Saturday that the number of victims of Izmir earthquake has risen to 12 dead, and 419 wounded.

AFAD said, in a statement, that the Izmir province witnessed 107 aftershocks, 21 of which were above four degrees on Richter scale, following the earthquake that struck the Aegean Sea off the coast of ‘Safari Hesar’ area.

The search and rescue operations are continuing in 17 buildings destroyed or damaged due to the earthquake, according to the statement.

On Friday, a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Izmir, western Turkey, according to a statement by AFAD.

The statement added that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Aegean Sea, 17 kilometers from the coasts of the ‘Safri Hesar’ district in Izmir, at a depth of 16.54 kilometers.
