Nawaz Sharif accuses Pakistani army chief of overthrowing his government

SANAA, Oct. 17 (YPA) – Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has accused army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa of overthrowing his government, pressuring the judiciary and installing the current government led by Imran Khan in the 2018 elections.

Sharif spoke on television from London to a gathering of tens of thousands organized by opposition parties to mark the launch of a nationwide protest campaign from the City of Gujranwala aimed at overthrowing Khan’s government, Reuters reported.

“, Qamar Javed Bajwa”,  you have eliminated our government, which was doing well, and put the nation and the state on the altar of your wishes,” Sharif said, addressing the crowd, which was the largest of its kind since the 2018 elections.

Last month, nine major opposition parties formed an alliance called the Pakistan Democratic Movement to launch a campaign against the government across the country.

The High Court dismissed Sharif’s government in 2017 on corruption charges, and the man travelled to London in November for treatment.

The Pakistani military denies interfering in politics, and Khan, who won the election with an anti-corruption program, denies being accused of coming to power with the help of the military.

The prime minister said On Friday that he was not afraid of the opposition campaign, describing it as aimed at blackmailing him to push him to drop corruption charges against its leaders.
