SANAA, Sept. 8 (YPA) – ‘Alsabeen’ Hospital for Maternity and Child in the capital Sanaa on Tuesday issued a distress call, warning of a full suspension of its services due to the stoppage of UN support for its programs and the deterioration of health sector because of the aggression.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) has withdrawn its support for the hospital’s diphtheria center, which is one of the most dangerous diseases spread during the aggression and siege,” Dr. Majida Al-Khatib, director general of the hospital, said in a statement to Al-Masirah TV channel.
The WHO stopped supporting the center last April, and it did not inform the hospital, which has caused a great confusion, Dr. Al-Khatib explained.
The United Nations Population Fund, which supports the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital, had announced the withdrawal of its support within two days without prior notice, she added.
Dr. Al-Khatib referred that the UNICEF organization, which has been supporting the child department in the hospital since March, has not completely fulfilled any of its obligations towards the hospital.
She stated that the hospital suffers from a large accumulation of indebtedness to supplying companies due to the organizations’ breach of their obligations without clarifying their new position.
