WHO warns against using blood plasma in treating Corona

SANAA, Aug 25 (YPA) – World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against approving the use of blood plasma from patients recovering from Corona in the treatment of other patients, noting that the evidence of its success is still “of low quality.”
“There are a number of clinical trials underway around the world looking at convalescence plasma, compared to the standard of care,” said Soumya Swaminathan, WHO chief scientist.

“Only a few of these trials have shown tentative results, and at the present time this evidence is still of very low quality,” she said during a press conference.

This warning comes a day after the Federal Food and Drug Administration approved in the United States the use of plasma recovered from the emerging corona virus to treat other infected people.
