Activists protest against deportation of Yemeni asylum seekers in UK

SANAA, Aug. 24 (YPA) –  A group of human right activists on Sunday  organized a protest vigil in front of the Home Office headquarters in London, denouncing deportation of Yemeni asylum seekers.

Protesters expressed their soldiery with refugees and asylum seekers and chanted slogan ” let them in, let them stay.

They also demanded the UK authorities to release all the detainees in Brock House Prison.

During the vigil, an influential word directly over the phone from the custody by a Yemeni asylum seeker Ammar to the protesters and the British public opinion.

Waleed Ali, Human Right defender, said on his Facebook page that some detainees went on hunger strike, which coincided with a protest held by dozens of anti-detention campaigners, calling for its Brook House facility to be shut down.

The immigration removal centre (IRC) near Gatwick airport is notorious for its inhumane conditions, he added.

According to Waleed, a group of asylum-seekers from Yemen, Kuwait, Iran and Iraq who are being held there face deportation on August 26 and 27. At least five of them are thought to be on hunger strike in protest against their planned removals.
