Chinese welcomes Putin’s proposal to hold international summit on Iran

SANAA, Aug 18 (YPA) – China welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to hold a summit of world leaders to prevent a return to the imposition of UN sanctions on Iran.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in Beijing that the failure of the US decision “shows once again that the unilateral approach does not have public support and that hegemonic behavior will not succeed.”

Zhao added that the United States should end its unilateral sanctions, adopt rational behavior, and return to the “correct path” of respecting the Iran nuclear deal and Security Council resolutions.

He continued: “As for the Russian proposal to hold an Internet summit on the Iranian nuclear issue, China welcomes this invitation.”

He added, “We are ready to continue communication and coordination with all concerned parties to jointly promote a political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue.”

On Friday, the United States failed to extend the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations on Iran, following a Russian-Chinese veto in the Security Council.
