ABYAN, Aug. 9 (YPA) – A number of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) ‘s militias were killed Sunday as clashes erupted with Hadi’s forces in Abyan, southern Yemen, for the second day in a row, Local sources said.
According to the Local sources, the Clashes between the two sides were renewed early in the village of Al-Taryah, where the STC is trying to retake the village near the city of Zinjibar, the administrative center of Abyan.
The same source confirmed that the ambulances were seen transporting dead and wounded in the STC’s ranks to Aden.
Since Saturday, Hadi’s forces have claimed the destruction of an Emirati armoured vehicle through which transitional elements were trying to infiltrate the area.
The two sides exchanged artillery and rocket fire along the battle fronts in Abyan.
These developments come as Saudi Arabia begins moves to bring the parties to the conflict back to the negotiating table. It is sponsoring in the hope of forming a future government as part of Riyadh’s efforts to break the stalled Riyadh agreement since it was signed last November.
