Israel violates Lebanon’s sovereignty, int’l resolutions: Aoun
BEIRUT, Aug. 1 (YPA) – President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Aoun, said Saturday that Israel violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and violates the country’s sovereignty.
This came in a televised speech he delivered on the occasion of the graduation of the “Diamond Jubilee” course officers in the army, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Lebanese Army Day.
The Security Council adopted Resolution 1701, on August 11, 2006, which calls for the cessation of all combat operations between Lebanon and Israel.
The Lebanese President continued: “We are also obligated to defend ourselves, our land, our waters, and our sovereignty, and we will not tolerate this.”
This comes in light of the escalation of military tensions between Israel and Lebanon, as the latter raised a complaint to the UN Security Council against the former, for its aggression on areas south of the country.
