ADEN, July 21 (YPA) – Since the early hours of Tuesday morning, the southern Yemeni city of Aden has been witnessing clashes between the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias and civilian protesters, local sources said
This comes after a 9-hour power outage, as summer temperatures peak.
According to the sources, that angry protesters blocked a number of roads in Khor Makser district, noting that the STC’s factions sent military pickups to open the main lines but were attacked with stones, prompting them to open fire indiscriminately at the protesters.
The death toll is not yet known, one of the sources said.
The protests are extended to other directorates, the sources added.
In the past two days, activists on social media have called to take to the streets of Aden to protest the deterioration of electricity services.
Activists have launched #iam_ready hashtag for protests against the sTC, which promised 60 megawatts of power a few days ago to cover the city’s needs.
Leaders of the Southern Movement are adopting these calls, particularly in light of the STC’s efforts to exclude the movement’s forces from representation in the government, which is expected to be formed in half with Hadi.
Aden city has been witnessing a public discontent over the lack of basic services, which led citizens to take to the streets.
